September 30, 2010, the Piedmont Pastel Society of Charlotte, NC, held a general meeting at the Jerald Melberg Gallery. I was the speaker for the evening.
My Keynote presentation included an explanation how pastels have always been a part of my life and a retrospective of my work. A brief overview of the recent 2010 Pastel Society of America’s Exhibition Awards Ceremony that happened September 26 at the National Arts Club in New York City completed the program.
Mentioned in my presentation was a particular painting that is significant to me_West of Denver (1999). It was created at a time when pastels became my primary medium of expression. Though pastels were always available and used, in 1999 there came a broader realization of the painting potential, the directness, and vibrancy of this medium.
