The International Association of Pastel Societies convention in Albuquerque was certainly memorable. It’s amazing what happens when 600 passionate pastel people get together to learn and share. I found the Jimmy Wright and Sean Dye workshops really helpful.
Everyones favorite IAPS event is the Paint-A-Around which happens Thursday evening as the convention officially begins. Six artists are set up in a circle, each with painting materials and a reference photo of their choice. Beginning at their own easel, each artist paints for ten minutes, then moves on to the next easel, ending up back at their original painting for the last ten minutes. The final works of art are signed by all six artists, and auctioned off during the banquet. So much fun to watch!
For me, the most exciting moment of all was being inducted into the Master Circle. I’m truly honored to be part of this auspicious group.
